AR-04: Ending The Workday With A Note On Blogs And Punctuation

In an interesting bit of politics-related verisimilitude, less than five minutes after I made the comment about “Lobbyist’s” in the previous post, this post from Glenn Gallas landed in my inbox.

Abraham Lincoln is credited with saying of his mother, “All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother,” and I couldn’t agree more. Mother’s, soft and gentle, kind and loving, sweet and tender, are the purest form of contact in a child’s growing years, and my dear mother will always, always hold a special place deep in my heart. When I would fall down and scrape my knee’s, elbow’s, or both, mother was the first to give comfort and assurance that I would survive the fall. With her kind heart and tender hands, she would masterfully treat my wounds, taking great care to ensure the process was as painless for me as possible. I will always love, appreciate, and remember my dear mother and the kindness and love she bestowed upon me. Always. And for all the Mother’s who support my campaign for Congress or not [sic], I do wish you and your family a joyous day of celebration and honor from your children. May God continue to bless all Mother’s, and may their children always hold their mother’s close to their hearts, as I do mine.

(Emphases added).
The sentiment is nice, but come on.
And, lest everyone think I am just nitpicking here, I’m not.  I don’t think it’s too much to ask for our political candidates to have a grasp of something as elementary as punctuation, nor do I believe that a candidate’s blog should be proof-read any less carefully than any other advertisement.  If a candidate is going to employ new media techniques in his campaign, which he certainly should, he should employ them with the same care as he would show any other media outlet.  Failure to do so is worse than failing to have a blog at all.
